The work you are seeing is painted with a unique medium called encaustic paint. Encaustic painting is the process of working with melted beeswax colored with pigments. It is archival which means that the colors never fade. The paintings can stand temperatures up to 100 degrees when I can hardly stand that kind of heat. The wax is molten and dries immediately so I need to be accurate and have confidence while creating an encaustic painting. It is an immediate and ritualistic method and the dangerous aspects of working with the hot wax initially attracted me to it. The material has a sensuous fluidity which I love working with.
