The Forgiving Sea I began in 2016 as an interactive painting in my studio. The goal of the painting was to create an interactive event that allowed everyone to experience forgiveness physically. This first painting of the series invited viewers to write the name of someone they wish to forgive, and when the painting was full of names, I painted them away with a new layer of the sea. Beneath the final version you see above are 27 layers of these community-driven markings, now a memory for those who contributed.
